Student Testing Grant

As funds permit, we will pay the fees for the TOEFL, GRE General, and SAT exams for exceptional students who demonstrate the potential to be admitted to undergraduate, masters, or doctoral programs. Awards will be made on the basis of merit and without regard to nationality.

Students who are interested must send the following to REF by mail or by email:

  • the completed testing exam registration forms from ETS (GRE, TOEFL) or CollegeBoard (SAT)
  • a copy of your high school or college transcript
  • a letter of intent detailing which universities and professions you are interested in, when you plan to apply and take the exams, and any other information about future plans or special activities in the past
  • optional, other information or supporting documents: recommendations, resume, olympiad results, etc.

We generally make our decision on the basis of your grades and the letter of intent. The ideal letter of intent will be similar to those letters of intent soon to be sent to the universities as part of the application process, with supplementary information about planned test dates and intended universities. Information which can differentiate students with similar grades include teachers' recommendations, competition or olympiad results, special activities or projects, etc.

For applicants from the United States and Canada, we must receive all information (completed forms, high school records, letter, etc.) at least three months before the date of the test so that we can respond in time.

For international applicants, we must receive all information (completed forms, high school records, letter, etc.) at least six months before the date of the test (three months if we can communicate by email) so that we can respond in time. Bear in mind that the forms have to get from the student to us before going from us to the ETS in Holland, and then the final documents have to get from the ETS to the student.

If we have available funds and students demonstrate dedication to the admissions process and the potential to be admitted, we will send the completed forms together with a check directly to the ETS in Washington, DC (for domestic applicants) or to the ETS in Holland (for internationals).

Applications materials may be written in English, Romanian, or Spanish.
