Student Testing Financial Support

As funds permit, we will pay the fees for the TOEFL, IELTS, GRE General, SAT, LSAT, MCAT, and GMAT exams for exceptional students who demonstrate the potential to be admitted to undergraduate, masters, or doctoral programs. Awards will be made on the basis of merit and without regard to nationality.

Application materials

The following materials are required:

  • Transcript: a scanned copy of your high school transcript (if applying to college), your undergraduate transcript (if applying to a masters program), or your undergraduate and masters transcript (if applying to a doctoral program);
  • Motivation Letter: a motivation letter which details: your future plans, including the universities and professions in which you are interested; your qualifications; the exam(s) you would like us to fund and when you plan to apply for and sit for the exams, and any other information about future plans or special activities in the past which the applicant deems relevant. If you you are applying for REF to pay for your LSAT, MCAT, or GMAT exam, your motivation letter must also explain how you plan to finance your education;
  • CV or Resume.

The following materials are optional, but may help your chances of success:

  • Letters of Recommendations
  • Olympiad results
  • Other relevant documents

Selection Criteria
We generally base our decisions on the quality of grades and motivation letters. The ideal motivation letter will be similar to those letters which will be sent to the universities as part of the application process, with supplementary information about planned test dates and intended universities. Supplementary information, such as teachers' recommendations, competition or olympiad results, and special activities or projects, can help to differentiate students with similar grades.

How it Works
The Romanian Education Foundation will reimburse successful applicants for the cost of approved examination fees.
If waiting for a reimbursement is a financial hardship for you, REF may send a check together with your completed paper-based application forms directly to the testing organization to complete the exam registration process on your behalf. This requires an earlier than usual application, however. If you are in this situation you should contact REF for special instructions.

Deadlines
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Four times a year - April 15, July 15, October 15, January 15 - the Romanian Education Foundation will consider all applications received by that date. We will announce our selections within 10 business days.

Instructions
Application materials may be written in English, Romanian, or Spanish. Please send all inquiries and/or completed applications to the following email address:

Update: As of February 10, 2012, application requirements have changed. Students are no longer required to send completed testing exam registration forms. CVs/resumes are required. Applicants no longer need to send applications months in advance of their intended examination date, but four annual application consideration periods have been introduced. Reimbursements are granted.
