The mission of the Romanian Education Foundation is to improve educational access.
REF was started by brothers Mihai and Andrei Popovici in 1994 while studying at Stanford University, with the generous support of the Romanian community of Northern California, in order to help make university education more accessible to promising students. It was started in the hope that the students that were helped to succeed might someday give back a little more to make up for those who don't make it, in this way making the organization self-sustaining in its ability to help future generations of students. Since its creation, REF has helped over 100 students. Many have since chosen to give back.
We disseminate information about university admission, and, as funds permit, we will pay the fees for the TOEFL,
GRE General, and SAT exams for students who demonstrate the potential to be admitted.
Mihai Popovici, Andrei Popovici, and Andy Popovici serve on the board of REF. Mihai is Chief Technology Officer at 3DGeo in Houston, Andrei is a patent attorney in San Jose, and Andy is an associate consultant at The Amundsen Group in Boston.
